Your website should be kept up to date for your audience, but there are a few more reasons that are just as important – especially when using a content management system like WordPress.
Search Engines
When your site goes without maintenance, crawl errors arise. Google will penalize these types of errors. Your site should be routinely analyzed and checked to ensure it is up to date to avoid being lost on search engines.
Updating your site regularly with original and informative content that is based on your target keywords will rank higher on search engine result pages over time.
Security Issues
Because WordPress is one of the most popular content management systems today, it can become very vulnerable to attack. Hackers will often target websites developed in WordPress for this very reason. Keeping your WordPress core, plugins and theme updated regularly will help mend the gaps of which hackers take advantage.

What Does It All Mean?
I know it can be a little overwhelming when you’re reading through the list of things that each maintenance plan covers. Here’s a quick breakdown of what it all means.
Managed & Vulnerability Updates
Your WordPress core files, themes and plugins need to be kept up to date. When new releases are published by the writers of the software you’re using, it is important to get them updated as soon as possible. This will increase your security, fix bugs in the software, and may add functionality to your site.
However, sometimes when plugins or themes are updated, they may clash with one or more plugins you are currently using on your site. This could cause something as simple as an aesthetic change in one page, or something major like your whole site giving an error code. Managed Updates means I will personally be checking your site before and after updates to see if there are any major, site-breaking conflicts and resolving them ASAP.
Cloud Backup
What happens if something breaks on your site and cannot be fixed without clearing the site altogether? This is where full website and database backups are highly important. Before any updates are performed on your site, I will make sure a backup is run. If something breaks during the updates, the backup can be restored, and troubleshooting can begin.
Database Optimization
Keeping your database optimized will help your site run smoother and faster. Cleaning up such things as post revisions, spam comments, and overhead (needless data) can decrease the weight on your database, thereby speeding up the time your website loads for your visitors.
24/7 Uptime Monitoring
If you rely on your website for any sort of income, or you’re trying to build authority (or both), you’ll need to make sure your site is up and running at all times. People from around the globe will want to access your site at different times of day, so running a site that is always available is better for you. If I get a notification that your site is down, I will inspect the issue and see how it should be addressed, then report to you my findings.
Performance Checks
A slow website can very well hurt your blog or business. I’ll make regular performance checks to give insight into how your site is performing with Google PageSpeed and Yahoo! YSlow grades. From there, I can give you more detailed information on how to best correct the issues to improve those scores (if needed).
Sucuri Security Checks
With regular security checks, I’ll make sure your site is clean. If any files become infected, I’ll be able to spot them and give you advice on what should happen next.
Link Monitoring
Keeping the links on your site monitored will help your site maintain authority. Broken links may drag down your SEO over time. With your links monitored, it will provide me with a list of broken links that I can pass along to you for correction. (This is something I can fix, as well, if you’ve got me helping with your Content Management.)
Client Reports
Want a written record of everything I did to keep your site maintained this month? I can send you a client report that will cover it all.
